We are more effective when we work collaboratively and seamlessly to support student needs. We are ALL responsible for working together for the success of ALL students. Improving communication and access to common information, establishing effective instructional and support teams, and focusing on wrapping around and strengthening the core relationship of teacher-student-families will improve student success.

We have developed a Framework for Collective Responsibility that will help guide the work we do from creating, implementing and monitoring School Plans for Learner Success, Local Education Agreements with First Nation communities, Individual Education Plans (IEP), and interventions by School-Based Teams (SBT). Common district assessments, with results made available in a timely and user-friendly format, support collaborative learning conversations by teams. Collective responsibility is a theme that emerges across all the other focus areas as we all do our parts toward common goals. Examples of this work include:

 • Focus for the current year on walking together
 • Collective Responsibility Framework
 • New district data warehouse and information management system
 • Strengthened school-based team (SBT) processes
 • More opportunities for cross-school collaboration

First Responders Meet & Greet!

Marie Sharpe Elementary

We are so lucky here at Marie Sharpe! Staff Sergeant Brad McKinnon (who also happens to be one of our local celebrities from Literacy Week and the husband of our Principal, Mrs. McKinnon) organized a whole event in Boitanio Park for students from all over the district to meet Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and Paramedics! Students got to go inside a police car and a fire truck, and they got to push the Police sirens and Fire horn buttons too! He even made it possible for the helicopter to fly over Boitanio Park for everyone to see!! How exciting!

Thank you so so much to Staff Sergeant McKinnon for organizing this fantastic opportunity for us! The volunteer hours and dedication absolutely do not go unnoticed, and we appreciate you so much.

The dunk tank was definitely one of the highlights of the night! Ms. Craig, Mr. Parkin, Ms. Campsall, and Mrs. McKinnon all took their turn getting dunked, and students LOVED every second of it! Make sure you peep Mrs. McKinnon's World Champion Syncro moves on the dunk tank!

Another huge thank you goes out to the Marie Sharpe community who came out in droves to participate, support, laugh, connect, and donate to this PAC fundraiser. Community Partnerships That Make a Difference

Marie Sharpe Elementary

Here is CCSD27, we are incredibly grateful for community partners like Scout Island Nature Centre and Gavin Lake Forest Education Centre, who help bring learning to life for our students in meaningful and unforgettable ways.

Whether our students are exploring wetlands and wildlife at Scout Island, or participating in immersive outdoor education experiences at Gavin Lake, these opportunities help students connect learning to the world around them. They encourage curiosity, teamwork, environmental stewardship, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the land we live on.

These experiences are a wonderful example of Collective Responsibility in action. More Than a Grounds Crew - Building Spaces for Learning & Belonging

Marie Sharpe Elementary

We are incredibly lucky to have a Grounds Department that goes above and beyond for our students and staff. Their work is a wonderful example of what Collective Responsibility looks like in CCSD27.

From painting new four square games in our courtyard, to refreshing our concrete walls, delivering sand for our sandboxes and sand pits, building and providing outdoor learning opportunities like oral storytelling around a fire pit, and all the other big and small things they do to keep our building running and safe, their work helps turn our school into a place where students can learn, play, connect, and belong.

What makes their impact so special is that their work is about so much more than maintenance. Every project they take on helps create spaces where students feel excited to be, where creativity and imagination can grow, and where learning can happen both inside and outside the classroom.

The Grounds Department quietly supports schools in countless ways that often go unseen, and our school community benefits from their hard work every single day. Their care, pride, and willingness to help are a reminder that student success is built through Collective Responsibility, with everyone working together to create the best possible environment for kids.

Thank you to the SD27 Grounds Department for all that you do for Marie Sharpe Elementary and schools across the district. Indigenous Support Workers in Action at MSE!

Marie Sharpe Elementary

At Marie Sharpe Elementary, we are incredibly fortunate to work alongside Indigenous Support Workers (ISWs) who play such an important role in supporting students, families, and staff every single day. Their work goes far beyond support, they help create connection, belonging, understanding, and a stronger sense of community within our school.

Through relationship building, cultural learning opportunities, student advocacy, and collaboration with staff and families, our Indigenous Support Workers help ensure that students feel seen, valued, and supported. Their presence strengthens the student, teacher, caregiver connection that sits at the centre of SD27’s Collective Responsibility Framework.

Whether they are supporting students one-on-one, helping classes engage in meaningful cultural learning, connecting with families, working alongside staff to remove barriers for learners, or making bannock for the whole school to enjoy, they remind us that student success is never the work of one person alone. It takes all of us walking together, learning together, and supporting one another.

We are grateful for the knowledge, care, and guidance our Indigenous Support Workers bring to Marie Sharpe Elementary each day. Living Collective Responsibility at MSE

Marie Sharpe Elementary

At Marie Sharpe Elementary, we’ve been doing a lot of great work as a team, and it really comes down to how we live out Collective Responsibility every day.

We keep coming back to one simple idea, the student, teacher, and caregiver are at the centre of everything we do. When that connection is strong, it makes such a difference. It helps us understand our students better, communicate more clearly, and work together in a way that truly supports each child.

Our School-Based Team meets regularly to talk about students, look at data, and figure out what supports will make the biggest difference. These conversations are thoughtful, honest, and always focused on what each student needs to be successful.

What makes this work so well is the collaboration. Teachers, support staff, and admin all come together to share ideas and problem-solve. We also lean on district staff and community supports when needed, knowing that we are all working toward the same goal.

We’re also really lucky to have Mrs. Reedman and Ms. Katsura leading this work. They keep us organized, focused, and always centered on what is best for kids.

At the end of the day, Collective Responsibility is about relationships.
